The greatest healing of TMJ and neck pain comes from a cultivated routine of strength, release, and breathing.

RESTCLOUD Neck and Shoulder Relaxer, Cervical Traction Device for TMJ Pain Relief

This simple tool is one of the most recommended in my office. We must reshape our necks both actively and passively. This is an easy, passive way to restore the shape of the cervical sleeve. While you use this, practice diaphragm breathing. Start just a few minutes at a time and make sure you are lying on it correctly!

Hugger Mugger Standard Yoga Bolster - Firm, Supportive, and Handmade

Women who spend quiet time opening the heart center are remodeling the soft tissue that causes TMJ, jaw, and neck pain. I highly recommend owning a yoga bolster. I favor Hugger Mugger as my bolster brand, and they make them in the USA.

Head to my post on a restorative posture for TMJ, jaw, and neck pain HERE

Gaiam Round Yoga Bolster Pillow

These Gaiam bolsters offer a less expensive option. I have not used them and cannot compare to Hugger Mugger.

Please note that many women may need to bolster their knees in some postures, such as the one illustrated here (the woman using multiple pads) or doing a hip opener such as letting the feet touch with bent knees (a butterfly position).

Skinny Hugger Mugger Bolster

Many ways exist to use the Hugger Mugger skinny bolster, such as positioning it under the feet and knees.

The spine product list should also include these bolsters as they are healing to the whole structure. Putting yourself in a quiet, healing position will turn down pain signals. The sleep and meditation product section (coming soon) will feature a link to the Hugger Mugger crescent-shaped cushion. LOVE those cushions.

Chirp Small Massage Wheel

This material is “medium-soft.” I use this product and will link to other Chirp wheels on the spine product page. I would suggest using it slowly, for a minute at a time, and seeing if it is right for you. The medium-soft bumps can press gently in the suboccipital area. When placing it near the lower cervicals, you can allow the neck to hang gently over the rounded shape.

TheraFace Therabody PRO - Facial Device, 8-in-1 Compact Face Massager

I own this and am not sure what the “8-in-1” features are ;) I use the face massager— with the red light on—often.

This is great for women with temporalis tendonitis who need frequent small doses of massage medicine.

According to women who see me for TMJ massage, this does not replace hands-on therapy, of course. But it helps maintain our progress!

Occipital Release Tool for Pivotal Therapy & TMJ Device

This is not my favorite neck traction device, but it seems popular. If you are a woman with pain right on the bottom of the skull, not under the skull but right on the skull bone, you may like this. Those soft bumps will hit that area and you can move your head back and forth, massaging it. Those areas on the base of the skull are not the root of the pain, they are under influence of dysfunction, but still, working right on them can help.

Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR Neck Pillow, Small Profile, White

This has been my pillow for over 25 years. I travel with this pillow and have driven over two hundred miles (both ways) to retrieve it from a previous hotel. I wish it were organic latex, but it’s not :( Still, it is the pillow for my neck.

Many women try various cervical curve pillows but buy the wrong size. You likely need a small size. Otherwise, it is doing the opposite to your neck than you want it to.

Pulsetto Wellness Wearable with Vagus Nerve Support – Patented Neuro Technology

Feeling stressed? Do you have vagus nerve distress symptoms? These vagus nerve stimulators are popular for those who are struggling with complex vagus nerve issues or even mild anxiety.

Want to stimulate the vagus nerve for free? The best things you can do: sing, hum, laugh, and breathe slowly. Exhale fully.

Please see the pelvic floor, ribcage, and spine page for a full vibration plate listing
Accessing the Healing Power of the Vagus Nerve: Self-Help Exercises for Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, and Autism

I read this book a long time ago. I do not recall it perfectly, but it is popular ;) If you need to heal from anxiety and trauma, and TMJ, jaw, and neck pain that have an emotional root, you MUST learn about the vagus nerve.

Keep scrolling for a great vagus nerve card deck!

The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma

When a woman comes in for a jaw session, we talk about the physical reasons for pain and the nervous system reasons for pain.

"In The Body Keeps the Score, he (the author) uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust. He explores innovative treatments—from neurofeedback and meditation to sports, drama, and yoga—that offer new paths to recovery by activating the brain’s natural neuroplasticity."

4 Size Facial Cupping Therapy Set Glass

Please check out the Pelvic Floor, Spine, and Ribcage list for other types of cupping options. From this facial set, you can use the largest size cup for masseter muscle release, but you can Google YouTube videos for other ways to use facial cups. Try this gently and know that it can create a red circle on your face. You can start with just 30 seconds. With the cup on, gently open and close your mouth. When you remove the cup, notice how you feel and how your skin looks. The red circle is a good sign of release but you may not want that on your face. Up to you! Please look into how to use this before you begin (again, Google it).

TeraRX® Terahertz Stone Gua Sha & Massage Tools – Authentic Terahertz Tools for Lymphatic Drainage

This smooth, mushroom-shaped face massager and lymph drainage tool is like the ancient Ayurvedic tool called Kansa wand. The Kansa wand is copper, and when I was younger, I used one often. I fell out of that habit, but all the facial tools from this company make me want to start back up!

I am going to list a variety of tools here, but please know that they are not “game changers” for facial tension and lymph drainage. They are simple tools that the women I speak with find helpful.

TeraRX® Terahertz Gua Sha for Enhanced Lymphatic Drainage

I am going to list a few Gua Sha options. I regularly use a Gua Sha tool...an expensive made in Portland copper tool that I LOVE and currently cannot find. Boo! People often use these tools on their faces and jawlines, as seen on social media; you can try that too. Does that move energy? Yes. Does it end jaw and face pain? Not normally. But this is a great tool to aid your journey. Where I use it, and where I suggest you use it, is gently on your sternocleidomastoid muscle and your upper traps. As a bodyworker, I use it on my forearms often.

WILDLING Empress Platinum Gua Sha | Facial Gua Sha | Stainless Steel |

Please see my description for Gua Sha under the first Gua Sha tool listed. This tool is luxurious, and the price point is not for everyone. I am listing it because I love the rounded shapes and women who work on women’s faces designed it. Because I am concerned about the mining of stone Gua Sha and their fragility, I prefer metal ones. This is a tool you are using and lymph issues come up with travel, so I suggest one that is easy to throw in a bag and take it with you.

Polyvagal Card Deck: 58 Practices for Calm and Change

This is one of the few items that I am listing on multiple pages. If you are in chronic pain, please consider the deep needs of your nervous system.

Deb Dana is famous for her work in Polyvagal Theory. I got one of my best on-the-table calming techniques from this deck of cards. Meaning I use the technique during women’s treatment sessions. Look around, be in the moment, find an item in the room that makes you feel safe—a painting, a lamp, a stone, a religious object—anchor on it, breathe. You are here right now. In this moment, you are safe, anchored in beauty. This aids women who are feeling anxiety during a pelvic floor treatment.
