A sneak peek
into the book
Who are these [ ALREADY PERFECT ] women, the ones we use as models for arranging our days, weeks, and years the way we do? Are they ATHLETES silently suffering from depression, reproductive troubles, and persistent joint pain? Are they PROFESSIONAL WORKING MOMS who seem admirably thin but struggle with stress and fatigue?

A woman acting in the interest of HER health and listening to HER wisdom never measures herself against the women around her; "TRUE HEALTH" is not accurately judged by outside glances or traits our culture deems good or bad. Women are empowered when they make individual, compassionate choices that focus on their complete [ MIND, BODY, AND SPIRIT SYSTEM ].

Jenn was a client whose chief complaint was seasonal allergies and pressure headaches. Within the first few minutes of our intake, she mentioned her LIFELONG issues with weight gain, but only as a way to put herself down (women often feel compelled to let other women know they are not satisfied with their physical appearance); she had not come to work on weight loss because SHE DIDN'T REALLY BELIEVE that was possible anymore.

Every conversation with a woman about AYURVEDA addresses food, digestion, and [THE EMOTIONS FELT DURING AND AFTER EATING]. Allergies are the by-product of an unhealthy digestive process and a build-up of digestive sludge, known in Sanskrit as "ama". And while Ayurveda offers a variety of herbal medicines and techniques for healing seasonal allergies, the physical, emotional, and spiritual intake of food is the basis of treatment. Over the next couple of visits, we talked about Jenn's attempts at weight loss, which included a variety of diets and cleanses. When she spoke, she conveyed disappointment with her physical body and the emotion of failure. But I also heard the confusion caused by our culture's lack of knowledge and the emotional distress that an ill-informed and judgmental culture creates.

Jenn had bounced between light and heavy food choices her entire life. She knew the STEREOTYPE of the healthy woman who is able to cleanse regularly, consume liquid meals, and drink green juice for lunch. But whenever she attempted this type of weight loss routine, she felt overly light, ANXIOUS, and preoccupied with thoughts of food and [ BODY IMAGE ] . When motivated to change her mornings, she tried a type of exercise class that society glorifies, but which wasn't right for her. The class was too intense for her calm nature, and she never really enjoyed herself. In addition, she sometimes ran, although it hurt her knee. When motivated to lose weight Jenn often mixed exercise with "diets" and unhealthy caloric withdrawal.
Yes! Jenn did learn how to love, appreciate and work with her beautiful body and unique elemental nature.
Whether you are a woman like Jenn-- or a woman with an entirely different food and fitness story--The Elemental Woman will teach you how to use Ayurveda to love your body, heal your mind and live a uniquely healthy life.
Why this book is different :
The Elemental Woman is THE book for a new generation of readers seeking health and wellness. This book stands out because it does not promise women that their lives will change if they implement one to two healing techniques. Health is an ongoing process, an exquisite struggle, and an ebb and flow, and comprises many choices and activities throughout the day. When you allow self-love to guide you, True Health slowly reveals itself. And this is important, just like food and fitness choices, True Health is personal. You should never compare yourself to another woman. Elemental wellness, as defined in The Elemental Woman, allows us to see that all paths, all bodies, all challenges, and all elemental women are equal in worth and beauty.
